School Bus Driver (part-time)

General Summary: To ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the children, staff, and volunteers during bus transportation to and from the school, as well as on field trips and athletic activities. It is also the role of the bus driver to guarantee that the bus is clean and in proper working condition at all times; determine and follow safe and efficient bus routes; ensure all children are in age-appropriate child safety restraints; and evacuate children in case of emergency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures the safety and well-being of children and adults being transported to and from school, on field trips, and during athletic activities.
- Completes a comprehensive written inspection of the bus daily, reporting any conditions of concern to the director or delegated staff person, before transporting children.
- Prepares trip reports consisting of mileage and gas receipts.
- Ensures that the communication device (e.g. two-way radio, cellular phone) is in proper working order before each trip.
- Ensures that the bus always has sufficient fuel.
- In consultation with the director, develops and follows efficient and safe written bus routes that ensure no child will be on the bus more than one hour.
- Operates bus in such a way that road and safety regulations are always followed; and reports any traffic violations to the director immediately.
- Ensures all children are in age-appropriate child safety restraints at all times during transportation.
- Follows safe bus loading and unloading procedures.
- Follows procedures to guarantee no child is left alone on the bus without adult supervision at any time, including insuring all children have departed the bus at the end of all bus routes (morning, evening, and during field trips or other special trips).
- Keeps the bus clean and free of debris; follows other bus cleaning procedures.
- Routinely inventories bus emergency and first aid supplies and equipment; reports needs to the director or delegated staff person.
- Prepares children for bus drills and ensures bus evacuation drills are held at least monthly, and documents all drills in writing.
- Assists in other transportation training of teachers, children, and volunteers.
- In case of accident/emergencies, evacuates children according to written and practiced procedures.
- In the event of an accident, assures that medical emergency procedures are followed; completes a written accident report as required by delegate's procedure and other authorities.

General Summary: Successfully assists the head coach to develop the team and individuals in the USM Middle School lacrosse athletic program within the philosophies of the school which is guided by our Common Trust. USM is committed to academic and athletic excellence. The assistant coach will work with the head coach to lead and support a positive, educational based athletic program that closely follows the culture and interests of the school. This opportunity could be combined with an academic or administrative position in the school.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist head coach in establishing a vision for the team.
- Be familiar with and be willing to promote the school's mission, philosophy, and objectives.
- Be a team player in a positive, student-centered athletic office by contributing ideas, service, and time to improve the overall program.
- Know and understand the rules and regulations of chosen sport as well as USM's general policies.
- Set seasonal goals for the long and short term and be able to pursue them until completion.
- Ability to follow clear program standards as set forth by the head coach and help all members of the program adhere to them.
- Be a positive role model for student athletes and represent the values and reputation of USM in a very public role. Actively promote student safety, dignity, and respect.
- Be a secondary communicator to varying constituencies including, but not limited to: parents, players, department staff, coaching staff, faculty, opponents, officials, as well as media.
- Be readily responsive to communication from the athletics office.
- Assist head coach as directed in administrative aspects of the program including, but not limited to: media relations, directing assistant coaches, working with booster team parents to organize team events, and seasonal record keeping.
- Attend performance meetings with head coach: pre- and post-season goals meetings as well as informal meetings throughout the season.
- Supervise student athletes in an appropriate and positive manner.
- Work with head coach to communicate post game results and other noteworthy news items with the Assistant Director of Athletics and Director of Athletics in a timely manner so they can be communicated through social media outlets.
- Keep current on coaching trends in field and utilize professional development opportunities whenever appropriate.
- Perform other duties as necessary to better the program as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

- Strong knowledge of lacrosse, its operations, and equipment.
- Ability to understand developmental levels of students and apply to practice.

Education and Experience:
