Students Learn About Careers in Finance

Upper School students were invited to join a virtual panel discussion with alumni and community members who work in the field of finance. The panel discussion is part of a series of events that feature individuals from various careers, who discuss how they got to where they are today, what they do on a daily basis, and any tips they have for students interested in that field. The event was hosted by USM’s College Guidance office, Alumni office, and the Internship and Shadowing program.

Watch a recording of the discussion here.

The engineering panel discussion featured Michael Sheppard, managing partner and founder, IronwoodDrive Financial Group and parent of current students; Tom Ulricson ’11, associate at Waud Capital Partners; and Scott Lurie, owner of F Street Group, principal at Jomela Properties, and parent of USM students.

Panelists shared advice for students, which included taking advantage of opportunities at USM such as the Internship and Shadowing program, as well as pursuing a career in a field you enjoy, have integrity in your words and actions, and don’t put off what you could accomplish today. They also shared advice on networking, cultivating relationships, and making connections.

Other panel discussions include engineering, technology, and arts.
