Boys Basketball Leads On and Off Court

Boys Basketball Leads On and Off Court

For the University School of Milwaukee boys’ basketball team, being a responsible leader is just as important off the court as it is on the court. On Tuesday, Jan. 18, the team was visited by Darvin Ham, assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks, who spoke about his life journey through basketball, both as a player and a coach, as well as his philosophy on coaching and life. He discussed his passion for “sharing” with others, as individuals shared with him as he was growing up and helped to guide him.

Prior to Coach Ham’s visit, the basketball team honored Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Jan. 17 through service to the community. The team spent more than three hours painting at the Neighborhood House of Milwaukee, saving the organization from having to spend $3,000 on professional painters. “The boys had a great time being together and serving the community,” said Tim Williams, head coach and USM director of athletics.
