Girls Swimming and Diving Goes to State

Congratulations to Lucy Art ’23 and Anna Staples ’22, who competed as individuals for the Brown Deer/University School of Milwaukee girls’ swimming and diving team in the WIAA Division 2 State Swimming and Diving Championship.

Art placed 9th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24:39, and Staples placed 9th in the 1-meter diving competition, with a score of 360.20.

“I am so proud of all the girls this season,” said head coach Amanda Hoppe. “With all the changes from the start of the season to the end, I couldn't be more excited for what's to come in the future. Anna was our only diver this year, and she started off the season not being able to practice at all. Despite this, she ended up going to state and getting a personal record! Lucy, meanwhile, was attacked by a shark while on spring break, severing four tendons in her right wrist. Determined to continue swimming, she came back stronger than ever breaking the 50-yard freestyle school record with her time of 24.39. This is only the beginning for them and the rest of the team, and I am so excited to see what everyone will bring next season!”
