Learning from Alumni Entrepreneurs

Learning from Alumni Entrepreneurs

University School of Milwaukee Upper School students and alumni were invited to attend a virtual panel discussion with alumni who work as entrepreneurs. The panel featured E. Kelly Fitzsimmons ’89, author and serial technology entrepreneur; Rick Stratton ’92, founder of H2O Power, a cryptocurrency fund; and Jeff Koenig ’06, CEO and founder of The Sigma Commercial Companies.

Panelists described a typical day in their life and shared advice for students, including finding mutual ground with people, being familiar with all parts of the business, experiences in college that helped foster their entrepreneurial mindset, and more. They also recommended that students have strong communication skills, and that they learn to be comfortable with setbacks.

The panel discussion is part of a series of events that feature individuals from various careers who discuss how they got to where they are today and share tips for students interested in that field. The event was hosted by USM’s College Guidance office, Alumni office, and the Internship and Shadowing program.
