University School of Milwaukee sophomore Sage Gundelly ’25 represented the state of Wisconsin in the Miss Teen USA pageant held in Reno, Nevada in October. At 15 years old, Gundelly was the youngest contestant, competing against others up to age 19. She placed third in the costume competition and placed top 15 overall in the nation (out of 51 contestants), making her the sixth Miss Wisconsin Teen USA to place in the top 15 in the nation.
Gundelly won the Miss Wisconsin Teen USA 2022 pageant in May, and was crowned by last year’s reigning queen, who happened to be her older sister, Shreya Gundelly ’20. “It was such an unreal experience,” said Sage. “This was my first Miss Wisconsin Teen USA competition, so I was not expecting to win. But I’m really close with my sister, and to be crowned by her was such a special moment that I’ll always remember.”
As Miss Wisconsin Teen USA, Sage hopes to serve as a role model through service events and various appearances throughout the state. “I’m able to gain so many life skills through pageants, like confidence in my public speaking and interacting with people, and even being able to show compassion to other people. I’ve gained so many new friends and have learned so much.”
