University School of Milwaukee faculty and staff members collectively raised $1,417 to benefit SEA Literacy, a nonprofit organization that provides tutoring, literacy, and mentoring services to refugee children in the greater Milwaukee area.
The money was raised through a raffle event at the USM holiday party held in December. As part of the event, individuals had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for $1 each for a chance to win prizes of varying scope—including an extra personal day, hand-crafted items, and even one of two tattoos—that were donated by their colleagues and other individuals. The raffle event has become a popular component of the USM holiday party. Each year, 100% of the raffle proceeds are donated to a local organization.
The money given to SEA Literacy will be used to support its mission, as well as to provide children with basic supplies such as toothbrushes, shampoo, and soap. Many thanks to the USM Community Crew for organizing the event, and to all who participated by donating a raffle item or purchasing a raffle ticket!
