USM Hosts Miracle League Super Hoops

Guests of the Miracle League of Milwaukee visited University School of Milwaukee on seven Saturdays in January, February, and March to partner with USM students and have fun playing basketball. Will Piper ’96, assistant director of alumni relations and reunion giving, joined forces with the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee and Miracle League to host Miracle League Super Hoops.

The event was held in USM’s Marion and Verne Read Lower School gymnasium, which features adjustable-height basketball hoops for children of all abilities. Piper arranged for Middle School and Upper School students to volunteer their time to provide assistance and encouragement. “I had so many students sign up to volunteer that I needed to start a wait list,” said Piper. “The smiles on all the kids’ faces were contagious, and I could not stop grinning myself.” In addition to the student volunteers, Rebecca Franklin and Roni Andrew of the YMCA provided basketball clinics.
