Bestselling author Emma Straub, and her mother, emerging writer alumna Susan Straub MUS’62, visited University School of Milwaukee on Thursday, April 11. They presented their new, inaugural collaboration, “Gaga Mistake Day,” in an assembly to prekindergarten through 2nd grade students, signed books, and joined students for lunch. The picture book is a story about when a mischievous granny babysits her delighted granddaughter.
Emma Straub is a New York Times-bestselling author of six books for adults. In addition to “Gaga Mistake Day,” she has written another picture book called “Very Good Hats.” Emma and her husband own Books Are Magic, an independent bookstore in Brooklyn, New York.
In addition to being an emerging children’s writer, Susan Straub developed a creative reading program, The Read To Me Program, for young families and their babies. She also co-wrote “Reading with Babies, Toddlers & Twos.” Susan was married to the late Peter Straub MCDS’61, best-selling author of horror and supernatural fiction novels, who died in 2022.
Many thanks to USM’s Parents’ Association and Boswell Book Company for supporting the Straubs’ visit.
