University School of Milwaukee’s Virginia Henes Young Theatre has been filled with music, thanks to recent concerts held by Upper School and Middle School students.
Nearly 80 Upper School band, choir, and orchestra students hosted a concert on Wednesday, Nov. 29 titled “Classics,” which featured music from throughout the centuries. Pieces included “Gloria,” by Antonio Vivaldi, “Allegro Moderato” from Symphony 29 in A Major by Mozart, arranged by Robert McCashin, and “Point Lookout: A Fantasy on Civil War Songs” by Brian Balmages.
Middle School band and orchestra students hosted a concert on Monday, Dec. 12, and Middle School choir students held a separate concert on Monday, Dec. 18. The band and orchestra concert included a special guest musician, Steve Hancock, USM’s head of school. “Both concerts were captivating, joyful, and inspiring and truly represented our tight-knit community,” said Middle School Head Elaine Griffin.
Many thanks to the following Upper School and Middle School faculty who supported the students and made the events possible: Taylor Adams, Katie Brister, Mark Edwards, Katie Gonring, Stephanie Hancock, Tracy Huffman, Steve Johnson, Dr. Dain Shuler, Ellen Shuler, and Christopher Vance.
