Career Lunch and Learn: Arts and Nonprofits

Career Lunch and Learn: Arts and Nonprofits

Upper School students at University School of Milwaukee were invited to attend the third career lunch and learn program of the school year, where students have the opportunity to dine with leaders and industry experts to learn more about specific fields of employment.

Held on Thursday, Jan. 11, the event covered the fields of arts and nonprofit organizations. Students heard from USM alumnus Anwar Floyd-Pruitt ’95, curator at the Museum of Wisconsin Art and current Artist in Residence at St. Kate – The Arts Hotel. His work has appeared in the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Chazen Museum of Art, and the Museum of Wisconsin Art.

They also heard from USM parent Kathryn Roszak Meltzer, chief operating officer of Worldwide Posters and Rhythmhound Productions, and current USM students Jackson ’24 and Mia ’25 Darr. They founded and run the nonprofit organization Positive Altitudes, with the goal of increasing the participation of kids from underrepresented communities in the sport of downhill skiing.

Students learned about the panelists’ educational backgrounds, how they came to be in their current roles, and how to prepare for a career in artistic and nonprofit fields.

The lunch and learn events are sponsored and organized by USM’s Internship and Shadowing committee with support from the school’s Parents’ Association. Any individuals interested in speaking at future events should contact internship@usm.org for more information.
