Career Lunch and Learn: Business and Entrepreneurship

Career Lunch and Learn: Business and Entrepreneurship

Upper School students at University School of Milwaukee were invited to attend the second career lunch and learn program of the school year, where students have the opportunity to dine with leaders and industry experts to learn more about specific fields of employment.

This career lunch and learn, held on Tuesday, Dec. 5, covered the fields of business and entrepreneurship. It featured alumni from two very different industries: Catherine ’06 and Ed ’09 Burke of Burke Candy, and Ethan Elser ’06, executive vice president of PACE Equity. Burke Candy is a local small business that has been making candy and candy ingredients for almost 100 years, and now serves customers around the country and the globe. PACE Equity is a commercial real estate financing company that focuses on cultivating clean energy solutions.

Students learned about what it takes to build and expand a small business, manage customer relations, navigate in an environment where supply prices can fluctuate wildly, and the educational paths that can help to prepare them for a career in business and entrepreneurship.

The lunch and learn events are sponsored and organized by USM’s Internship and Shadowing committee with support from the school’s Parents’ Association. Any individuals interested in speaking at future events should contact internship@usm.org for more information.
