Celebrating Chinese New Year

Celebrating Chinese New Year

Students at University School of Milwaukee celebrated the Chinese New Year on Friday, Feb. 9 and ushered in the Year of the Dragon, which is a symbol of authority, abundance, and good fortune in Chinese culture. Upper School Chinese students led a dragon parade through the Middle School and Lower School, where they were greeted in the hallway by younger students eager to take in the colorful procession and music.

The Chinese New Year, or Lunar New Year, is celebrated by an estimated 2 billion people around the world. In Chinese culture, dragons are bearers of wealth and good fortune and are often included in new year celebrations, including the one at USM.
