Eighth Grade Award Winners Honored

On Thursday, May 30, several University School of Milwaukee 8th grade students were honored as recipients of year-end awards in a variety of categories. Students were nominated by 8th grade faculty, Middle School leadership, and their peers, depending on the award.

Learner: Nominated by 8th grade faculty
This award recognizes students who exemplify academic success in 8th grade at USM. Academic success is reflected in the student’s dedication to: learning and expanding their knowledge, skills, and abilities; full effort and hard work; active participation in their own learning; willingness to take risks and to learn from mistakes; ability to accept and utilize feedback; positive contributions to the learning environment; strong relationships with classmates and teachers; and growth mindset and resilience.

Leader:  Nominated by the head of Middle School, assistant head of Middle School, and the Middle School Ethical Leadership program liaison(s) 
This award recognizes students who demonstrate strong leadership qualities in their daily interactions and relationships at University School. Strong leaders live by the Common Trust with ethics and integrity; make good choices and help others make good choices; find creative solutions to resolve issues; actively participate in leadership opportunities; and motivate and inspire the people around them. 

Citizen: Nominated by 8th grade students and 8th grade faculty
This award recognizes one student whose participation in activities both at school and beyond best supports the spirit of University School of Milwaukee. Good citizens make USM a better place because they live by the Common Trust with empathy and joy; stand out as model members of the USM community; serve the USM community and beyond; and actively strive to make USM a better place for everyone.

Athletic Award: Nominated by Middle School coaches and PE teachers
This award recognizes students who demonstrated a high degree of leadership, sportsmanship, and dedication to their athletic endeavors this school year.
