Now on display in the Werner Family Art Gallery at University School of Milwaukee is a collection of rainforest-themed artwork created last year by current 2nd and 4th grade students. The then-1st grade artists created observational drawings of flowers native to the rainforest and pained them using the wet-on-wet watercolor method. Last year’s 3rd grade students also worked on observational drawings and learned different techniques such as breaking down a reference photo into basic shapes or smaller sections to draw. Finally, using either cool or warm watercolors, they painted an animal and background.
Many thanks to Andrea Worthey, former Lower School art teacher and current Upper School art teacher, for her work to guide these young artists.
