At the 2023 State Girls Individual Tennis Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 14, top-seeded Isabel Werner ’24 and Mia Darr ’25 won the Division 2 title match in doubles with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over second-seeded Sophia Torke and Grace Villwock of Kohler. Werner had teamed with Darr to finish third last season, and this year was the fourth time she qualified for state. In 2021, Werner won the state title with Rebecca Daskal ’22, and Darr advanced to the second round with Rachael Schneck ’22.
Doubles team Haley Erlich ’26 and Lindsey Gardner ’26 made also made it on to the podium, with a 5th place victory of 6-1, 6-4 over Regis' Colleen Callaghan and Ashley Chilson.
In singles competition, Angela Wang ’26 won the Division 2 championship.
If USM can continue the winning streak and can claim back-to-back team titles in Madison next weekend, they can become the first Division 2 program in the current two-division format that debuted in 1994 to win the team title, the singles title, and the doubles title in the same postseason.
