Middle School Choir Students Earn Top Ranking

University School of Milwaukee students in the Middle School honors choir participated in the Music in the Parks competition earlier this summer, where they earned a superior score—the top rating. Only one other middle school earned a top rating. The students were led by Dain Shuler, director of bands and music technology, and Ellen Shuler, Middle School and Upper School music teacher. The trophy will be displayed outside of the Preschool/Lower School/Middle School dining room.

About Music in the Parks
Music in the Parks is an educationally-focused music festival that provides school performing ensembles the opportunity to learn from exceptional conductors in the field of music education today. The organization’s mission is to bring together these student musicians and adjudicator-clinicians for performances with the result being musical growth, achievement, and recognition for both the individuals and the participating music programs.

The events take place over multiple weekends in the spring in cities across the United States. The event is culminated by a celebratory awards ceremony where all participants are honored for their commitment to quality in music education.

It was founded by Dr. James Wells in 1981, and along with Festivals of Music and EPN Travel Services is part of the Educational Programs Network.
