State Supreme Court Justice Visits 4th Grade

Fourth grade students at University School of Milwaukee welcomed a special guest on Friday, March 15: Rebecca Dallet, Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice. Dallet spoke about the judicial branch of the state government, and how the Wisconsin Supreme Court differs from United States Supreme Court. She also answered extensive questions from students, including what an average day is like for her, examples of interesting cases she’s reviewed, how someone becomes a state Supreme Court justice, and if she’s ever argued a case in front of the national Supreme Court.

Fourth grade students spend the year studying the history of Wisconsin, which culminates in an extended-day field trip to Madison in May. As part of their studies, students explore how the three branches of government work together, as well as their checks and balances, and the history of the State Capitol building, which they visit on their field trip.
