USM Adds Two New Varsity Teams for 2024–25 School Year

With more than 90% of Upper School students competing in at least one sport during the 2023–24 school year, University School of Milwaukee will be adding two new varsity teams next school year—girls golf and gymnastics. Girls golf will compete in the fall, as part of the school’s golf program. Gymnastics, a winter sport, will be offered as part of a co-op with another area high school, with more details to be shared in spring. Both sports are sanctioned by the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA).

“I am excited that we are able to grow our athletics program with the addition of these two new teams,” said Tim Williams, director of athletics. “Just as when we added softball [in 2021, as a co-op offering in partnership with Brown Deer High School], we heard from our students and their families about their interest in these two sports, and we determined that we had the numbers to make both of them work for us. We look forward to continuing to maintain and even grow our overall participation numbers and continue our athletic success in all sports.”

With the addition of girls golf and gymnastics, USM will now offer 26 varsity teams for the 2024–25 school year—14 girls’ teams and 12 boys’ teams. USM hosts a co-op program for girls hockey (with DSHA, Nicolet, Shorewood, St. Thomas More, Whitefish Bay, Dominican, and Rufus King high schools as participating schools), and also participates in co-op teams for girls and boys swimming and diving, as well as softball, with Brown Deer High School as the host school for those sports.
