University School of Milwaukee welcomed comic artist and author Rob Harrell on Friday, Sept. 20. Harrell visited the Middle School, where he held a book signing, spoke to students during an assembly, and shared lunch with a small group of invited students and guests.

During the assembly he talked about how he got started writing books, his favorite books and drawings, and how a battle with cancer influenced his writing. He also sketched a comic character live on stage using ideas and prompts from students.

He was on campus to promote his newest book, “Popcorn,” which is a story about coping with anxiety on a day when everything is going wrong. His visit was sponsored by USM’s Parents’ Association.
