Poet and author Charles Waters visited University of Milwaukee students in all three divisions on Monday, May 5. In the morning, he visited Preschool and kindergarten students, where he gave a presentation in the Stratton Preschool/Lower School Library and also signed books.
In the Middle School, Waters led a poetry workshop with students in Cheryl Bair’s 5th grade English classes. Finally, he finished his day by eating lunch in the Jack Olson ’67 Commons with members of the Upper School Student Diversity Leadership Club and others.
Families were invited to order autographed copies of his book prior to his visit, which was supported by USM’s Parents’ Association. His most recent book is “If I Could Choose A Best Day.” He has previously visited USM in 2018, 2021, and 2022.
Waters’s visit supports USM’s Common Trust, in which members of the USM community agree to relate to one another and the school with respect, trust, honesty, fairness, and kindness. It also supports USM's guiding principle of inclusion, where a recognition of and respect for diverse backgrounds and cultures help students learn to think broadly, critically, and independently.
