Dr. Rick Clark Answers Parents’ Questions

Dr. Rick Clark, a child clinical psychologist based in Milwaukee, visited University School of Milwaukee on Wednesday, March 5. He visited with parents and answered parenting questions for the Wildcat Coffee Hour, which was sponsored by the Parents' Association. He answered questions about the role of imaginative play at school and home, gave advice for helping children minimize comparisons with others, and gave advice for how to handle arguments and upsets.

Clark is no stranger to USM, having previously hosted a Wildcat Coffee Hour in May 2024 centered on executive functioning in children. In addition, he spoke with Michael Tauscher, head of Preschool and Lower School, about a child’s whole developmental framework.

This is the second school year that USM has partnered with Clark to support the school's Preschool teachers and their work with students. Clark visits Preschool classrooms throughout the school year and provides valuable resources and insights on practical strategies and cooperative problem-solving techniques to best support students. This collaboration allows teachers to create effective methods to guide children, helping them learn, grow, and play in a positive and successful environment.

Clark’s yearlong collaboration is made possible through a Think Big grant from the school, in which teachers can apply for funding to engage in professional development opportunities.
