On Wednesday, Feb. 26, several University School of Milwaukee administrators, along with 20 teachers representing all three divisions, and one student, participated in the SafeTALK Suicide Prevention Training. They learned how to recognize individuals that are thinking of suicide, offer them support, and connect them with further help. This follows similar training that Middle School and Upper School students received earlier this school year.
The experience led participants to gain critical skills that will come in handy not only in their roles as educators, but also with friends, family, and the broader community. Upon completion, each person became a Certified Suicide Alert Helper.
The training was coordinated by Lizzy Perry, Upper School counselor, and facilitated by Levi Stein, rabbi and president and CEO of The Friendship Circle of Wisconsin. Materials were provided by Safe Talk by Living Works.
