Scholastic Writing Winners Announced

Congratulations to the 39 Upper School students who won a total of 92 individual awards in writing from the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition. The awards included 34 Gold Keys and 35 Silver Keys. In addition, Eliana Egwike '26 earned both a Gold Key and American Voices award nomination for her poem "the first time I heard my father cry."  

Winning entries were selected for awards without knowledge of the student’s gender, age, ethnicity, or hometown by some of the foremost leaders in the visual and literary arts. Jurors look for works that exemplify the Scholastic Art Awards’ core values: originality, skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. 

Many USM students were honored for multiple works, including: Gurleen Ahuja '26, Anaya Amin '26, Simmona Arov '26, Jasleen Chahal '26, Gisselle De La Rosa '28, Raya El-Hajjar '25, Anand George '26, Madelyn Hernandez '25, Eliana Igwike '26, Emmanuel Igwike '28, Avana Kelly '25, Mia Lucke '27, Ella McDonald '26, Benjamin Naples '26, Abbey Norman '26, Emily Pan '27, Ella Scott '26, Laya Sumithra '25, Eshaan Vasudev '26, Angela Wang '26, and Addy Witt '27.

Many thanks to the following Upper School English teachers for assisting: Matt Flack, Sarah Foust Vinson, Kate Gay, Danielle Goldstein, Charlie Housiaux '02, Kiranjeet Kaur, and Drew Mullen, and Upper School drama teacher Mark Edwards.
