Three art teachers at University School of Milwaukee have been elected to serve on the Wisconsin Art Education Association (WAEA) board of directors at various levels, serving as links between art educators and students, and the WAEA.
Andrea Worthey, Upper School art teacher, was elected WAEA president elect for the state of Wisconsin. She will serve a six year term: two years as president-elect, two years WAEA state president, and two years past president. In June, she will attend the National Art Education Association (NAEA) national leadership conference, which is focused on visual arts, design, and media arts education leadership, in Wichita, Kansas. In this elected position, she will represent Wisconsin as a WAEA delegate to the NAEA convention delegate assembly and the NAEA western region annual meeting and at national meetings and conventions. In December, Worthey was accepted into the School of Art Leaders 2025 Class, sponsored by the NAEA.
Izzi Buikus, Middle School art teacher, will serve as divisional representative for Middle School for WAEA. This leadership role is a two-year, elected position that represents the middle school community and supports the goals of NAEA and WAEA. Buikus will serve as a link between the middle school community of students and art professionals and the WAEA.
Mandy Culver, Lower School art teacher, will serve as the divisional representative for private and independent schools for WAEA. This leadership role is a two-year, elected position that represents the private and independent school communities and supports the goals of NAEA and WAEA. Culver will serve as a link between the private and independent school communities of art professionals and students and the WAEA. “I’m most looking forward to connecting with fellow art educators around Wisconsin and diving deeper into how other independent schools operate," said Culver. "The WAEA has been such a supportive and valuable resource throughout my career. I'm excited to give back.”
