Upper School theatre students at University School of Milwaukee are presenting the musical “Mary Poppins,” the beloved family classic based on the “Mary Poppins” children's books by P. L. Travers and the 1964 Disney film. Tickets are on sale for shows that run tonight, Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, March 1 at 2 p.m. The show is directed by Mark Edwards, Upper School drama teacher, with a full ensemble of student actors, theatre technicians, and musicians.
The show has benefitted from two expert guests, including Steve Hancock, USM’s head of school, who is playing the bass in the pit orchestra for all performances. In addition, cast members were visited by professional actor Michael Dean Morgen earlier this month, who played Mr. Banks in the first and second national tours of “Mary Poppins.” The Waukesha, Wisconsin native talked to Upper School thespians about acting as a career and also provided dialect help.
