Boys Hockey to Compete at State

The University School of Milwaukee boys’ varsity hockey team is headed to the WIAA Division 1 Boys Hockey State Tournament after a 7-3 victory over the Muskego Ice Force co-op at the sectional final on Friday, Feb. 27. The Wildcats will take on Edgewood as the third seed in a state semifinal game on Friday, March 6 at 2 p.m., with the title game scheduled for Saturday, March 7 at 7 p.m.

Muskego entered the sectional contest with an eight-game winning streak, but couldn’t stop the Wildcats. Henry Bechthold ’26 earned a hat trick to lead all scorers, while Liam Fetherston ’26 scored two goals, and Davie Moalusi ’26 and Ian Massart ’28 each scored one. Senior Charlie Pickart ’26 had 31 saves in goal.

“All season long, our coaches have pushed us to be ready for games and moments like these, and I think that showed in the way we played together and stayed composed,” said Bechthold. “We trusted the game plan and played for each other the entire night. It means a lot to get this win and represent our coaches and our school at state.”

The USM boys’ hockey team earned state championships in 2006, 2010, and 2019. This is their first trip to state since 2023.
