Girls’ Track Relay Team Sets New Record

When University School of Milwaukee athletes Shazia Bacchus ’28, Rosie Barksdale ’27, Brooklyn Easley ’29, and Aliyah Nwagbaraocha ’29 ran the 4x200 meter event at the WIAA Division 2 regional track and field meet at Grafton on May 26, it was only their second time running that race together. The first time they ran it, on April 21, they had very little practice together. “When I saw them run in April, I knew they were going to break the record this season,” said Kari Young, varsity coach and physical education teacher. “They showed incredible chemistry and effort on the track during the meet, and it resulted in a record-breaking performance.”

Their time of 1:47.48 topped the previous record of 1:49.00 set in 2017 by Hailey Farrington-Bentil ’18, Kristen Chou ’19, Tunmi Omoloja ’20, and Davis Collison ’17. For Easley, it was her second school record set just that week, as she set a new record in the girls 100-meter hurdles at the Midwest Classic Conference meet on May 19.
