Award-winning journalist Kieran Mulvaney visited University School of Milwaukee on Monday, Sept. 15 and Tuesday, Sept. 16 to discuss his work in and around the coldest regions of the planet, as well as his latest book, "Arctic Passages: Ice, Exploration, and the Battle for Power at the Top of the World." It was the required summer reading for USM’s Global Scholars students.
Mulvaney's visit included meeting with 8th grade science students, lunch with the Upper School book club, a presentation to the entire Upper School, and conversations with students in various Upper School classes including Environmental Literature, AP Environmental Science, and Global Scholars. On Monday, Sept. 15 Mulvaney gave a talk at the Shorewood Public Library in partnership with Boswell Books that was free and open to the public.
His visit was supported in part by the Global Scholars/Crisis Simulation fund, provided in recent years by a small group of parents, parents of alumni, and alumni, resulting in a matching grant from the Edward E. Ford Foundation. His visit was coordinated by Laura Klein, Upper School librarian, with assistance from Dr. Henry Wend, Upper School history teacher and Global Scholars program director.
