March to the Memorials Honors Veterans

March to the Memorials Honors Veterans

University School of Milwaukee 8th grade students and faculty hosted the 14th annual March to the Memorials, a service-learning event open to the entire USM community, on Friday, May 23. The event was held in the school’s front circle.

All members of the USM community were invited to march beginning at 2:30 p.m. The goal was for participants to march until 8,000 collective laps (equivalent to the distance from Milwaukee to the war memorials in Washington, D.C.) were walked. In addition to marching, students raised funds to support Pets for Vets, Stars and Stripes Honor Flights, and Wood National Cemetery.

Several events were held throughout the week leading up to the march:

Lower School Pets for Vets drive: $583.42
Middle School Volley for Vets event: $323
Middle School bake sale: $702.50
Middle School out of uniform drive and other donations: $1,437.53

A total of $3,046.45 was raised to support these honorable organizations. Many thanks to all who helped to raise money and awareness for these great organizations!
