Scholastic Art Winners Announced

Scholastic Art Winners Announced

Congratulations to the 25 Upper School students and five Middle School students who won a total of 80 individual awards in art from the Scholastic Art Competition. The awards included 17 Gold Keys and 25 Silver Keys. View the award-winning work here

Winning entries were selected for awards without knowledge of the student’s gender, age, ethnicity, or hometown by some of the foremost leaders in the visual and literary arts. Jurors look for works that exemplify the Scholastic Art Awards’ core values: originality, skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.

For the fourth consecutive year, Aida El-Hajjar ’27 was nominated for an American Visions Award for a felt relief portrait titled “Of Softness and Survival.” Jurors from each region can select up to five works to be American Voices or Visions Award Nominees. These nominated works are then reviewed by national judges to receive American Voices or Visions Medals. The awards’ core values of originality, skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision are key factors in the selection process.

Many USM students were honored for multiple works, including: Lauren Abele ’28, Rosie Barksdale ’27, William Burlew ’28, Darcy Doyle ’26, Brooklyn Easley ’29, Aida El-Hajjar ’27, Malyna Heipp ’27, Emmanuel Igwike ’28, Stella Janowski-Melchoir ’26, Jake Joseph ’29, Mae Lilly ’29, Benjamin Naples ’26, Gabi Ortiz Fleet ’26, Hans Weissgerber ’28, and Tever Welsch-Rainek ’30.

All students who received either a Gold Key or Silver Key will have their work displayed in an exhibition at the Milwaukee Art Museum starting in February. In addition, the Gold Key recipients advance to the national competition in New York City for a chance to have their work exhibited and/or published.

Names of award winners were collected to the best of our ability. If you notice an error or omission, please email communications@usm.org
