Scholastic Writing Winners Announced

Scholastic Writing Winners Announced

Congratulations to the 26 Upper School students and one Middle School student who won a total of 76 individual awards in writing from the Scholastic Writing Competition. The awards included 22 Gold Keys, 40 Silver Keys, and 14 Honorable Mentions.

Three students were nominated for an American Voices Award: Jasleen Chahal '26, Emily Pan '27, and Sam Yuan '29. Jurors from each region can select up to five works to be American Voices Award Nominees. These nominated works are then reviewed by national judges to receive American Voices Medals. The awards’ core values of originality, skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision are key factors in the selection process.

Many USM students were honored for multiple works, including: Gurleen Ahuja '26, Jasleen Chahal '26, Grace Chen '27, Gisselle De La Rosa '28, Aida El-Hajjar '27, Sofia Elejalde '26, Anna Freshwater '29, Anand George '26, Bianca Ladd '27, Mia Lucke '27, Wynter Maitland '26, Benjamin Naples '26, Emily Pan '27, Simrin Patel '27, Maia Scherman '27, Harini Tallam '26, Angela Wang '26, and Sam Yuan '29.

Winning entries were selected for awards without knowledge of the student’s gender, age, ethnicity, or hometown by some of the foremost leaders in the visual and literary arts. Jurors look for works that exemplify the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards’ core values: originality, skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.

All students who received a Gold Key are automatically considered for national awards, including Gold Medal, Silver Medal, and scholarship awards.

Names of award winners were collected to the best of our ability. If you notice an error or omission, please email communications@usm.org
