Student Competes at National Championships

Jiyan Singh ’30, 8th grade student at University School of Milwaukee, was one of four students to compete for the state of Wisconsin at the 2026 RTX MathCounts National Championship in Orlando, Florida on Monday, May 11. Singh earned the highest score amongst his team members and finished 41st out of 223 students at nationals, making him the top MathCounts competitor from Wisconsin.

This is the second consecutive year that Singh competed at the national competition and earned the highest score amongst his team. Singh was among 223 competitors representing all 50 states, as well as U.S. territories and schools that serve the U.S. State and Defense departments, who traveled to Florida after earning a spot in the national competition. Singh earned 2nd place at the state MathCounts competition in March, which qualified him to compete at nationals (USM’s team took 7th at the state competition).

In addition, Singh also competed in the National Geography Bee, the National Science Bee, and the National Mathematics Bee hosted by International Academic Competitions and held in Orlando. He earned the following in the 8th grade sections:

  • National Champion: National Mathematics Bee
  • SemiFinalist: National Geography Bee (2nd place in world geography exam)
  • Quarterfinalist: National Science Bee
