Students Donate Self-Portraits to Middle School Office

Head of Middle School Elaine Griffin was proud to recognize two talented 7th graders who generously donated their original artwork to be displayed in the Middle School office. Alejandro Villegas-Muniz ’31 and Mads Merrick ’31 painted creative self-portraits during 6th grade in Middle School Art Teacher Izzi Buikus's art class. As a 7th grader, Merrick commented that seeing the framed artwork reminded her of how much she's "grown and changed from 6th grade." Villegas-Muniz reflected that the self-portraits not only capture his developmental growth, but also remind him "of the ways he is growing into a better person." Griffin thanked the students for their generosity and shared that their work will showcase to visitors USM's strong commitment to the arts and the accomplishments of students in our arts program.
