Students Take First in Math Competition

A team of eight University School of Milwaukee students earned 1st place in the Opportunity Conference at Milwaukee School of Engineering on Friday, Jan. 16, topping Brookfield Academy and Homestead High School. The competition focused on math, with events in algebra, geometry, advanced math, and problem solving.

For the individual category, Sami El-Hajjar ’27 earned a perfect score, finishing in 1st place, while Jiyan Singh ’30 earned 2nd place in the singles competition. 

This is the second consecutive year that USM won the competition, and the third consecutive year that El-Hajjar ’27 finished in 1st place with a perfect score for the individual category.  

Students were accompanied by Upper School Math Teacher Michael Bartl.
