Drumroll Please

University School welcomed award-winning recording and touring drummer, speaker, author, actor, educator, and producer Rich Redmond to campus on Tuesday, May 7. Redmond’s day was filled with various events on campus, as he spoke to the football team about servant leadership, performed with the 8th grade world drumming class, ate lunch with the Student Athletic Leadership Team (SALT) and other student leaders, and shared his positive and energetic message with the entire Upper School—which included a few performances.

Redmond’s book, “CRASH Course for Success,” is one of this year’s summer reading titles for students. While speaking with students Redmond outlined his tips for success, including keeping a positive attitude, continuously working to improve one’s skill set, and maintaining positive relationships, among others.

Redmond has toured, recorded, and performed with a variety of artists including Jason Aldean, Kelly Clarkson, Garth Brooks, Kid Rock, and others, and was named country drummer of the year by “Modern Drummer” magazine three years in a row.

His visit was organized by Brian Sommers, Upper School physical education/health teacher and head football coach, who wanted Redmond’s message of positivity and enthusiasm to be shared with students.

Watch the videos below of Rich Redmond teaching a Middle School world drumming class, and performing various hit songs that he has performed with Jason Aldean.
