March to the Memorials 2019

March to the Memorials 2019

University School of Milwaukee 8th grade students and faculty hosted the seventh annual March to the Memorials, a service-learning event open to the entire USM community, on Friday, May 24. The event is usually held in the Middle School car circle however, due to rain, it was held in the Middle School and Upper School gymnasiums.

All members of the USM community were invited to march beginning at 2:30 p.m. to raise money for the Stars and Stripes Honor Flights, and Pets for Vets. The goal was for participants to march until 8,000 collective laps (equivalent to the distance from Milwaukee to the war memorials in Washington, D.C.) were walked.

Several events were held throughout the week leading up to the march, including a tasty bake sale, and an out-of-uniform donation drive. USM had a casual-dress day on Friday, May 25 for students who wore red, white, and blue.

We are proud to raise money and awareness for these great organizations and honor our men and women in uniform—past and present. As a USM community, USM raised nearly $2,100 for the two organizations.
