University School of Milwaukee's Preschool and Lower School counselor, Mr. Salerno, is a resource for students, their parents, teachers, and school administrators. Mr. Salerno teaches students in classrooms, focusing on social emotional learning (SEL) topics including: understanding and managing emotions, friendship and social skills, problem solving and conflict resolution skills, adjusting to changes, and mindfulness practices. Mr. Salerno helps new students in their transition to USM. He is also available to meet with students individually and in small groups. Mr. Salerno networks with outside behavioral health specialists and connects parents with outside services when needed. Parents are also welcome to make an appointment and meet with Mr. Salerno to discuss child development, parenting, or family issues that may have an impact on a child's school experience.
